Jamaican bulla cake is a traditional Caribbean dessert. This tasty, spicy dessert is made from jaggery, flour, and spices like ginger and nutmeg. Its distinctive texture and rich flavor make it a favorite snack in Jamaica and beyond.
Preheat your oven to 375°F. Prepare your Bundt pan or cake pan of choice by lining it with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger powder, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir it well.
Melt brown sugar with water in a separate bowl. Add molasses and stir well.
Now add fresh ginger and melted butter and stir well.
Add milk and vanilla to enhance the flavor. Stir well until all ingredients are combined.
Add the liquid mixture to the flour and knead. Keep in mind that the dough should be soft.
Make the dough into a ball, cover it with plastic wrap, and set aside for about 30-35 minutes.
Take out the dough from the bowl, make a ball and roll it out. Roll it out a little thick so that it becomes easier to bake.
Place it in the prepared baking tray and bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes.
Remove from oven and brush with butter. Remove from the pan and cool briefly on a wire rack.
Take out the cake on a serving plate, and serve with butter. Enjoy your delicious Jamaican cake!
